PM-KUSUM Yojana Subsidy (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) Scheme at mnre.gov.in aims to provide farmers in India with energy security while also upholding India’s pledge to increase the installed capacity of electric power from non-fossil sources to 40% by 2030 as part of Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs).
PM Kusum Yojana Subsidy
PM-KUSUM Yojana’s administrative clearance came in March 2019, and in July 2019, the program’s rules were drafted. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) initiated this program to install solar pumps and other renewable power plants across the country.
Farmers, farmer organizations, panchayats, and cooperative societies are all eligible to apply to install solar pumps under the PM-KUSUM Yojana. There are three sections under the overall cost of this program where the government will provide assistance to farmers. Farmers will receive a 60% government subsidy, with the remaining 30% covered by loans from the government. 10% of the project’s total cost will only be covered by contributions from farmers. The solar panel’s electrical output may be sold by farmers. With the revenue from selling electricity, a new company may be started.

Advantages Of The KUSUM Program
The following are some advantages of the Pradhan Mantri KUSUM Yojana:
· The solar power plants the Indian government built have a combined capacity of 28,250 MW.
· Farmers will only be responsible for 10% of the overall cost of constructing solar plants and pumps thanks to the government’s 60% subsidy and 30% loan.
· According to the KUSUM Scheme’s specifications, the government will offer subsidies to aid in the installation of cutting-edge solar pumps. The 720 MV capacity of the solar pumps will enhance irrigation. In accordance with this strategy, farmers can increase their revenues by selling additional power produced by their plants to the government directly.
· Solar power installations on bare, uncultivated land can help rural landowners create a steady income.
· Solar power plants will be built on cultivable lands that are at least a certain height. Farmers are able to keep growing the plants after installation in this method.
· The PM KUSUM Scheme promotes environmentally friendly activities and assists in reducing pollution on farms by boosting the usage of renewable energy.
Three Components of PM-KUSUM Yojana
Component A
- Under this concept, workers will erect 10,000 MW of decentralized, grid-connected renewable energy power plants on wasteland.
- These networks will be built by farmers, cooperatives, groups of farmers, panchayats, Water User Associations (WUA), and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO)
- Power projects will be constructed within a 5 km radius of the sub-station.
Component B
- Farmers would receive assistance under this program to install standalone solar agricultural pumps worth Rs. 17.50 lakh.
- With 7.5 HP of power, the new pumps can take the place of current diesel agriculture pumps.
- 5 HP is the sole capacity that will receive financial support, even though the capacity may be higher.
Component C
- The 10 lakh agricultural pumps that are connected to the grid will be solarized as part of this scheme, and the individual farmers who own these pumps will be given support in the process.
- Distribution Companies of India (DISCOMs) would pay a set price for extrasolar energy.
- The solar electricity produced will be used to meet the farmers’ needs for irrigation.
KUSUM Scheme Eligibility Criteria
The KUSUM Scheme is available to the following groups:
- An individual farmer
- Farmer producer organization or FPO
- Panchayat
- A group of farmers
- Water User Associations
- Co-operatives
PM KUSUM Yojana Subsidy Beneficiary
The program intends to give farmers or rural landowners a steady and ongoing income for 25 years. It will make good use of the uncultivated or arid terrain. Solar panels are set up on cultivated land at a height that doesn’t interfere with farming.
The projects’ close proximity to sub-stations enables little transmission loss to DISCOMS while also providing a steady supply of electricity to the agricultural areas during the day. It will help farmers wean themselves off of using diesel, which is another circumstance where the economy and environment gain.
The KUSUM plan was introduced to boost farmer income and lessen their excessive reliance on diesel. The plan uses arable fields and desolate land in rural locations to produce renewable energy. The farmers’ financial burden is maintained at a minimum thanks to government financial assistance, both State and Central.
The PM KUSUM Yojana Subsidy has the potential to significantly enhance farmers’ financial circumstances and the rural economy.
